A roadmap for your nationality
Turkish citizenship for Libyan families: a second home in Türkiye
The clock tower and Ottoman-era mosques of Tripoli's old city show how long Libya and Türkiye have known each other. Today many Libyan families already feel at home in Istanbul. You can apply for Turkish citizenship through a USD 400,000 property purchase or a USD 500,000 investment in funds, a bank deposit or government bonds, and give your family a lasting second home.

Why Türkiye for Libyan investors
Familiar traces from Tripoli
Ottoman-era traces still live on in Tripoli's old markets, domed mosques and clock tower. You will see the same architectural language across Istanbul's historic peninsula. This shared past helps Libyan families settle in quickly and takes away much of the feeling of arriving somewhere unknown.
Healthcare you already trust
The modern private hospitals of Istanbul and Ankara are places many Libyan families already know and choose. As Turkish citizens, you can plan check-ups and treatment whenever you need, for as long as you need, without thinking about visas or residence permits.
Familiar faces in Istanbul
A large Libyan community lives in Istanbul. Arabic-speaking neighbourhoods, restaurants serving familiar dishes and schools that welcome Arab families are part of everyday city life. Rather than starting over alone, you join a circle where friends and relatives are often already settled.
Long ties in building and trade
Turkish contractors and manufacturers have known Libya for many years, and Turkish goods are well known in Libyan markets. For Libyan businesspeople, Istanbul is a natural base for meeting suppliers face to face, visiting trade fairs and building lasting commercial relationships.
Two investment routes to Turkish citizenship
Real estate: USD 400,000
Buy property worth at least USD 400,000 and keep it for 3 years. You can use it as a home for your family or rent it out.
Fund, deposit or bonds: USD 500,000
Invest USD 500,000 in eligible real estate or venture capital funds, a deposit at a bank in Türkiye or government bonds, and keep the investment for 3 years.
The process for Libyan applicants
A first call in your language: goals, route (property or fund), budget and family composition.
Document preparation at home: legalisation and translation.
Bank account in Türkiye and traceable transfer of the investment amount.
Investment execution: property purchase with valuation and title deed, or fund unit purchase with MKK blockage.
Conformity certificate, investor residence permit and the citizenship application.
Decision and passport issuance; family members included in the same file.
Practical notes for Libyan applicants
Libya uses consular legalisation for official documents: the issuing authority, the Libya ministry of foreign affairs and then the Turkish consulate. Our investor relations team coordinates these steps with you.
The investment is sent from Libya by traceable bank transfer to your account in Türkiye. Keep the bank records and the exchange certificate, because they are part of the application file.
Libya has its own rules on holding another citizenship. Our investor relations team goes through them with you before you apply, so your plan fits both countries.
Documents typically requested
- Valid passport for each applicant
- Birth certificates and, for spouses, the marriage certificate
- Police clearance certificate for the main applicant and spouse
- Biometric photographs
- Proof of the investment (title deed and valuation, or fund conformity certificate)
- Bank records showing the foreign exchange transfer and the exchange certificate
- Health insurance for the residence permit stage
Frequently asked
Do I have to live in Türkiye to become a citizen?
No. Türkiye does not ask citizenship-by-investment applicants to reside in the country. You can keep your life and business in Libya and visit Türkiye whenever you wish. There is no Turkish language requirement either.
Will medical visits for my family become easier?
Yes. Family members who are Turkish citizens enter Türkiye without a visa and stay as long as they like. Hospital appointments, longer treatments or regular check-ups can be arranged on your own schedule, without applying for permission first.
Property or fund: which route suits me?
For a family home or rental income, the USD 400,000 property route is the natural choice. If you prefer not to manage a property, the USD 500,000 fund, deposit or bond route is simpler. In both routes the investment is held for 3 years.
How are documents from Libya legalised for a Turkish application?
By consular legalisation: documents from Libya are legalised through the consulate.
