Turkish citizenship for Iraqi investors and their families

For Iraqi families, Türkiye is the neighbour next door: a short flight away, familiar in faith and food, and a place many already visit every year. Winvest Passport guides Iraqi investors through Turkish citizenship by investment, either with a USD 400,000 property purchase or a USD 500,000 fund, deposit or bond investment, both held for 3 years.

Why Türkiye for Iraqi investors

Rivers that join our lands

The Tigris and the Euphrates both rise in the mountains of eastern Türkiye before they reach Mesopotamia. This shared geography has shaped centuries of trade, family ties and common traditions, from the small tea glass to the Friday family table.

Close by air

Direct flights link Istanbul with Baghdad, Erbil, Basra and other Iraqi cities, so a weekend with family in Türkiye or a business trip is only a few hours away. Your second home always stays close to your first.

A market you already trade with

Türkiye is one of Iraq's leading trade partners. Iraqi merchants already buy building materials, food, textiles and furniture from Turkish suppliers, and citizenship makes it simpler to set up a company, open accounts and grow these ties from Istanbul.

Two routes, one family file

Choose a USD 400,000 property purchase or a USD 500,000 investment in funds, a bank deposit or government bonds. Your spouse and children under 18 join the same file, and our investor relations team handles every step together with you.

Two investment routes to Turkish citizenship

Real estate: USD 400,000

Buy property worth at least USD 400,000 and keep it for 3 years. You can use it as a home for your family or rent it out.

Fund, deposit or bonds: USD 500,000

Invest USD 500,000 in eligible real estate or venture capital funds, a deposit at a bank in Türkiye or government bonds, and keep the investment for 3 years.

Not sure which route fits you? Start your personal roadmap with the form on this page; our investor relations team will go through both routes with you.

The process for Iraqi applicants

  1. A first call in your language: goals, route (property or fund), budget and family composition.

  2. Document preparation at home: legalisation and translation.

  3. Bank account in Türkiye and traceable transfer of the investment amount.

  4. Investment execution: property purchase with valuation and title deed, or fund unit purchase with MKK blockage.

  5. Conformity certificate, investor residence permit and the citizenship application.

  6. Decision and passport issuance; family members included in the same file.

Practical notes for Iraqi applicants

Iraq uses consular legalisation for official documents: the issuing authority, the Iraq ministry of foreign affairs and then the Turkish consulate. Our investor relations team coordinates these steps with you.

The investment is sent from Iraq by traceable bank transfer to your account in Türkiye. Keep the bank records and the exchange certificate, because they are part of the application file.

Iraq allows its citizens to hold another citizenship alongside their own.

Documents typically requested

  • Valid passport for each applicant
  • Birth certificates and, for spouses, the marriage certificate
  • Police clearance certificate for the main applicant and spouse
  • Biometric photographs
  • Proof of the investment (title deed and valuation, or fund conformity certificate)
  • Bank records showing the foreign exchange transfer and the exchange certificate
  • Health insurance for the residence permit stage

Frequently asked

Can I buy a family home in Istanbul for citizenship?

Yes. A property purchase of at least USD 400,000, kept for 3 years, is the basis of this route. You can stay in it during visits, let it or keep it for your children, and after 3 years you are free to sell.

Can my children study in Türkiye?

Yes. As Turkish citizens, your children can attend Turkish schools and universities, and Istanbul and Ankara also offer international schools. Many Iraqi families see a Turkish education as a strong start for the next generation.

Must I leave Iraq and live in Türkiye?

No. Türkiye has no residence requirement for this route. You can keep your life, work and home in Iraq, visit Türkiye whenever you like, and you do not need to speak Turkish.

How are documents from Iraq legalised for a Turkish application?

By consular legalisation: documents from Iraq are legalised through the consulate.
