A roadmap for your nationality

Turkish citizenship for Azerbaijani investors: a second home among kin

Azerbaijanis and Turks often describe themselves as one nation with two states. The languages are close, the tables look alike and many families already move between both countries. With a USD 400,000 property purchase or a USD 500,000 investment in funds, deposits or bonds, you can turn that bond into Turkish citizenship. Our investor relations team walks you through every step.

Why Türkiye for Azerbaijani investors

No interpreter needed

Azerbaijani and Turkish are so close that you will follow most conversations at the land registry, the bank or the doctor's office. That familiarity makes the whole process feel like a family matter rather than a paperwork exercise abroad.

A short hop from Baku

There are direct flights between Baku and Istanbul, Ankara and other major Turkish cities. A trip of a few hours lets you check on your apartment over a weekend, meet your advisers and be home again in time for dinner.

Familiar faces in Istanbul

Istanbul and Ankara have long been home to Azerbaijani families, students and business owners. In your new neighbourhood you will find people who celebrate Novruz, share your music and your cuisine, and speak a language you already understand.

Wide choices for your children

Türkiye offers established state universities, private universities teaching in English and international schools. As citizens, your children can apply as Turkish students and plan their education without a language barrier standing in their way.

Two investment routes to Turkish citizenship

Real estate: USD 400,000

Buy property worth at least USD 400,000 and keep it for 3 years. You can use it as a home for your family or rent it out.

Fund, deposit or bonds: USD 500,000

Invest USD 500,000 in eligible real estate or venture capital funds, a deposit at a bank in Türkiye or government bonds, and keep the investment for 3 years.

Not sure which route fits you? Start your personal roadmap with the form on this page; our investor relations team will go through both routes with you.

The process for Azerbaijani applicants

  1. A first call in your language: goals, route (property or fund), budget and family composition.

  2. Document preparation at home: legalisation and translation.

  3. Bank account in Türkiye and traceable transfer of the investment amount.

  4. Investment execution: property purchase with valuation and title deed, or fund unit purchase with MKK blockage.

  5. Conformity certificate, investor residence permit and the citizenship application.

  6. Decision and passport issuance; family members included in the same file.

Practical notes for Azerbaijani applicants

Azerbaijan is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention (in force since 2005). Birth and marriage certificates and the police clearance certificate are apostilled at home and then translated by a sworn translator in Türkiye.

The investment is sent from Azerbaijan by traceable bank transfer to your account in Türkiye. Keep the bank records and the exchange certificate, because they are part of the application file.

Azerbaijan has its own rules on holding another citizenship. Our investor relations team goes through them with you before you apply, so your plan fits both countries.

Documents typically requested

  • Valid passport for each applicant
  • Birth certificates and, for spouses, the marriage certificate
  • Police clearance certificate for the main applicant and spouse
  • Biometric photographs
  • Proof of the investment (title deed and valuation, or fund conformity certificate)
  • Bank records showing the foreign exchange transfer and the exchange certificate
  • Health insurance for the residence permit stage

Frequently asked

Do I have to leave my business in Baku?

No. Türkiye does not ask you to live in the country to hold citizenship. You can keep running your business in Baku, visit whenever you like and follow your investment from home.

Can my spouse and children become citizens too?

Yes. A husband or wife and any sons and daughters younger than 18 travel on the same file as you. One qualifying investment is enough for the household, and we collect everyone's papers together in one go.

Can I sell the apartment later?

Yes. Once you have held the property for 3 years you may sell it, rent it out or pass it on to your family. Until then you can live in it yourself or earn rental income.

How are documents from Azerbaijan legalised for a Turkish application?

By apostille: Azerbaijan is a party to the Apostille Convention (in force since 2005).
